Watching Without Watching

A family in Kaposvár renovating their home so an aging parent could move in wanted enough oversight to feel confident she would be safe: a fall in the night, a door left open at 3 a.m., a stove burner forgotten. What they didn't want was a single camera inside her private rooms, which she had firmly, and understandably, refused to accept.

Every vendor the family spoke with defaulted to the same proposal: a standard camera package covering the bedroom and bathroom, with reassurances that footage was "only for emergencies." The mother's objection had nothing to do with trusting her family. It was about not wanting to be watched in her own bedroom for the rest of her life, and none of the vendors seemed to have an answer beyond suggesting she reconsider. The family didn't want to choose between her dignity and their own peace of mind.
