Protect 7.2 Brings Refined Smart Detection and Faster NVR Search

UniFi Protect 7.2 is a big release if you run video security at any real scale. It touches evidence integrity, investigation workflow, camera compatibility, AI accuracy, and how you see a whole portfolio of sites at once.

Evidence you can actually prove

Every clip can now be fingerprinted with SHA-256 at the moment it's captured and digitally signed, with authenticity checked at evidence.ui.com. Altered or tampered footage gets flagged automatically.

For condominium boards and municipalities that lean on footage in disputes, insurance claims, or legal proceedings, that changes the conversation. A recording can no longer just be dismissed as edited. The chain of custody is provable, not asserted.

A real audit trail for investigations

Protect 7.2 adds proper case management: who reviewed a case, which clips they opened, what got downloaded. Healthcare clinics and municipal buildings handling incident investigations end up with a documented record of who touched what evidence and when, which matters for compliance as much as for internal accountability.

Fewer false alarms

Second-Stage Verification gives ambiguous or low-confidence detections a second, more careful look before they turn into an alert. For condominium security staff, that means less time chasing notifications that turn out to be a passing shadow, and more attention on the ones that matter.

Broader camera support and safety monitoring

A few smaller additions round out the release:

  • Expanded ONVIF support for managing third-party cameras centrally, alongside UniFi hardware
  • A flexible Point of Sale API that links transactions to the video around them
  • Real-time PPE detection on AI Key, flagging missing safety gear on construction sites and in warehouses as it happens

The PPE detection is worth flagging in particular for municipalities overseeing public works sites, or property managers during a building renovation.

One dashboard across every site

Site Manager now has a native multi-tenant, multi-site view of physical security across a whole portfolio. For property management groups running several condominium buildings, that means one dashboard instead of a separate login per building, the same kind of consolidated oversight AION already builds into how it manages client networks.
